First Time Visitors
We warmly welcome all visitors to the Church of the Holy Spirit, whether you are in town for the weekend or are looking for a permanent church home. We want you to feel comfortable on your first visit, so if you don’t find an answer here, feel free to contact us!
What happens during church?
You will be greeted by a friendly usher, who will give you a bulletin containing information for the service. You may sit anywhere you like. Children are welcome, and there are crayons and activities in the back for them, which they may take into the pews.
Our worship is liturgical, that is, it follows a predictable outline based on ancient Christian practice. It includes Bible readings, a message (sermon, homily, or interactive time), prayers, hymns, and Eucharist (communion). You will be invited to stand, sing, pray, and read out loud with others, as well as to receive communion. Please join is as you are comfortable.
Worship Schedule: Worship is currently virtual through Zoom.
- 9:30 am Sunday Service of Communion under Special Circumstances with music
- 8:00 am Monday-Friday service of Morning Prayer
Where do I park?
There are a few church parking spaces behind the church on Purchase Street. On Sundays, street parking on Rock Street and Purchase Street is free; church visitors are also welcome to park in the Family Services Association parking lot just beyond the church on Rock Street. Enter via the doors on Rock Street or the kitchen door on Purchase Street.
How long does worship last?
Our (quiet) 8:00 service lasts about 40 minutes; the 9:30 service lasts between 60 and 70 minutes.
Is there a coffee or fellowship time after worship?
After the 9:30 service, everyone is welcome to have coffee or tea and snacks (often Portuguese specialties from a local bakery) in the parish hall and to chat with others.
Can I speak with the priest?
You can speak with the priest following the service or contact him through the church office (firstname.lastname@example.org or 508-672-5571).
